I was first introduced to NewB® Leadership Center in 2008 while I was completing my master’s degree at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. When I returned to the Washington DC area, I began attending NewB® Leadership Center’s seminars, classes, and conferences – learning more about intercessory prayer, the Holy Spirit, talents, gifts, and the Kingdom of God.

The teaching, support, and encouragement I received from the Ministry were instrumental in my decision to return to school to pursue doctoral studies. I cannot truly express in words what Sam and Raycenia mean to me and how the Ministry has supported me over the years. They consistently prayed for me and encouraged me throughout my PhD journey, a journey that culminated in Spring 2020 when I received my PhD from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

NewB® inspired me to be led by God’s spirit and taught me that we are all called to ministry, using our talents and gifts, even if we aren’t called to the pulpit. One of the lessons learned from the Ministry that continues to resonate with me is the importance of finding purpose and meaning in life and the importance of letting God direct one’s path. I believe my life’s calling is reflected in Isaiah 61: “…the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…” This passage inspires my research, which focuses on human wellbeing and societal equity. It also motivates me in my everyday life to be compassionate toward others.
